Takashi Buhaina Blakey, Administrator
The Estate of Art Blakey is managed by Art Blakey’s son, Takashi Buhaina Blakey. Mr. Blakey has a wealth of experience in business operations and an extensive knowledge of the jazz music industry. Mr. Blakey served as a roadie for his father’s band and assisted with business operations for the Jazz Messengers. He was later employed by Jazz at Lincoln Center, the world’s largest nonprofit arts organization dedicated to jazz music, under the leadership of trumpeter and ex-Jazz Messenger, Wynton Marsalis. While he is currently employed by CBRE in commercial/corporate real estate, Mr. Blakey remains heavily involved in the jazz industry through his work with the Estate.
It is Mr. Blakey’s goal to honor the legacy of Art Blakey and his impact on the evolution of jazz music. Under the leadership of Mr. Blakey, The Estate of Art Blakey actively promotes the music, image and brand of Art Blakey and engages in activities and partnerships that keep his music and memory alive.
Mr. Blakey holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Alfred University.
The Estate of Art Blakey is the sole owner of all rights relating to the name, image and likeness of Art Blakey and all of Art Blakey’s rights in musical works created, performed, or collaborated on by Art Blakey. As such, the names “Art Blakey”, “Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers”, “The Jazz Messengers”, “Jazz Messenger”, “Jazz Messengers”, and “The Jazz Messengers— Legacy of Art Blakey” are all registered trademarks of the Estate of Art Blakey and are available for licensing in a variety of marketing and/or for promotional uses.
